Bad noise on start up ??

Hi to everyone on this forum from a brand new member.
I have had my 318 ci for nearly a year now and this problem seems to be getting worse.
On a cold start up the engines fires up with a very loud burst of revs often accompanied by a bit of engine rattle, after a second or 2 this stops and the engine returns to normal. The initial burst of revs seems very excessive to me and I don't think it is doing the engine much good starting like that before the oil has a chance to do its job (it also sounds bloody awful). If you turn off and start the engine again it starts up normally. It only seems to do this on initial cold start up. The car then runs like an absolute dream with no problems at all.
The only other thing that might be connected is when we had the recent batch of cold weather and snow the car seemed to do the oposite and only just start with the revs / tick over too low.
I had a complete oil service and oil flush trough about 6 months ago thinking this may cure it but to no avail.
I am by no means an expert on engines and a bit skeptical to start playing around but I guess it is to do with the fuel injection / choke on start up forcing the engine to run too quickly before the oil has done its job (hence the engine rattle)
Can anyone enlighten me on this? what is the actual problem ? would it be an expensive fix ? as said before apart from this the car runs like a dream so any help would be greatly received for this annoying problem
