Brake light circuit

Well today my OBC was telling my to check my brake light circuit. The problem is that there is no problem with my brake lights at all. The 3 brake lights work, my reverse lights work, and so do my turn signals. does anyone know what the actual problem is? It just keeps flashing that on my OBC and its pretty annoying. Huh

I would check your sockets and make sure they are making a good contact. I have seen it happen many times on these e36's where the computer is giving that message because the socket is not making a good connection into the back of the tail light...

Yeah it could be a loose socket like Tony said, which will cause intermittent operation which is enough to get a check control warning. Or a short somewhere else. The control unit needs to see a certain voltage signal back from the lights in order to not throw the warning. If there was high resistance in either the power or ground side of the circuit, the lights would be dim or not work at all. If there was, say for instance, a short to either power or ground within the circuit or taillight assembly itself, it could cause those problems.

Or could just be a shitty OBC

I checked all of the sockets first when the warning first came up on my OBC. they were all good and didnt see any problems with them making contact. how would i check for a short or voltage? Or can you just do it for me and ill pay for your IN n Out at the next meet in return haha. seriously tho I dont have a multimeter and im sure that you do.

Its cool I was just thinking of maybe you bringing it to the next meet but today the brake light warning didnt come on once. so yeah ill just wait till it does again and buy a multimeter.
