The following is the procedure for programming the e36 factory remote keyless entry FOB. This procedure is for the 2 button remote usually included with the September 1995 and up model year E36's. If you did not receive a FOB when you purchased your BMW, you can click here to take the part number 82111469448 and look it up on google to try and locate a new or used one.

You must do the first 4 steps within 45 seconds or the procedure will not continue.

1. Make sure all doors, the hood and trunk are all closed and car is unlocked
2. Open the trunk lid
3. Open the drivers door
4. Sit in drivers seat and close the door
5. Put your key in the ignition
6. Cycle the key from the off position to the on positon (second position) five times within 10 seconds
7. Open the drivers door
8. Close the drivers door
9. Press and release the large button on the remote
10. Press and release the small button on the remote
11. Press and HOLD the large button on the remote until the light flashes one time
12. Press and HOLD the small button on the remote until the light flashes one time
13. Open the drivers door and get out of the BMW leaving the door open
14. Close the trunk lid
15. Close the drivers door
    

Your FOB should now be programmed to operate your E36. You can program up to four keyless remote fobs to the same BMW at one time. As you program a new FOB, the oldest one that is programmed will drop from the system.
