can anyone confirm the torque settings of the sump bolts on E36 1.9 M43 Engine, compact ?
Haynes quote 10Nm which seems on the light side.

It all depends on the bolt grade. If you over tighten the bolts, you will destroy the gasket which will cause the gasket to leak. Below are the torque specs for the bolts for the oil pan to the engine block:
8.8 grade bolt = 10Nm (89 in-lbs)
10.9 grade bolt = 12Nm (106 in-lbs)
